Richard Unger zal spreken over de: "Geschiedenis van de Nederlandse scheepsbouw sinds de Middeleeuwen", geillustreerd door een PowerPoint presentation. Dit was ook de eerste lezing voor CAANS in April 1985 vlak na de oprichting van CAANS, met vertoon van dia's! Nu een speciaal Encore t.g.v. ons 25 jarig jubileumjaar! Saturday, September 18th: Dutch Bike Ride: 3 hours, 10km or 20km. We will meet at the parking lot for the Ferry to Barnston Island at 11am or a little earlier. The ferry is free and located at the north end of 176th Street in Surrey. To get to the Ferry parking lot, turn right at the "T" intersection (104th Avenue) at the north end of 176th Street. It is 10km to bicycle around Barnston Island once. Ambitious bikers can circle the island twice. There is hardly any traffic in this area and the route is easy to follow, so everyone can go at their own pace. For lunch, we will bake some Dutch pancakes on camp stoves at the picnic area at the north-west corner of the island. Pancakes, apple sauce, maple syrup, fruit jam, and juice will be supplied. A donation of $5 dollars per plate would be appreciated. This will be an easy trip and a fun outing in a farmland setting. Wear some orange to express your pride of your Dutch heritage. Tuesday, September 21st: Vancouver Borrelavond. We will be meeting for drinks, snacks (or dinner), and lively Dutch conversation from 7pm to 10pm (or 12pm) at the Wicklow Pub (604-879-0821). The pub is located at 610 Stamps Landing in False Creek on the water's edge beside the Monk McQueen's Restaurant. Take the Moberly Street exit off 6th Avenue just west of the Cambie Street Bridge. Friday, October 15th: een concert door het Amsterdamse "Brisk Recorder Quartet" in de Unity Church op 5840 Oak Street/W 42nd, georganiseerd door Early Music Vancouver. Op het programma staat o.a. 'Orpheus and the Domestication of the Animal World', met 2 gastartiesten op de viola da gamba, film animaties door studenten van de Utrechtse 'School of Arts' (HKU), en harp intermezzi. Dit concert en de Canadese tour zijn gesponsored door het 'Fonds Podium Kunsten'. Er is een pre-concert introduction om 7:15 uur. Het concert begint om 8 uur. Kaartjes zijn normaal $35/$32 (seniors, students), maar CAANS krijgen een speciale group rate van $29.75 voor een groep van 10 of meer, of $28 voor meer dan 20 personen. Saturday, May 28th, 2011: Come to the 14th Annual European Festival and savor the flavours of Europe right at your doorstep. Join in on the 15 hours of family fun, from 10am in the morning to 1am at night at the Scandinavian Centre at 6540 Thomas Street in Burnaby. See the swirling flags and colourful costumes in the Opening Ceremony parade; non-stop Stage performances; relax in the Food Tent & Beer Garden; Children's Tent activities; 30 Cultural Display booths; & the MarketPlace Tent. In the evening, dance up a storm to the energetic songs of a local band.
